SIGHT-SEEING AND SHOPPING TOURISM IN GUANGZHOU
Guangzhou Travelogue - Pengalaman Perjalanan ke Guangzhou.
Guangzhou is famous for being the center of wholesale markets.
Me and my wife spend a week in Guangzhou for sight-seeing and to do some shopping.
TELECOMMUNICATION / WIFI SERVICE
CELCOM telecomunication roaming service was terrible, most of the time not in service.
Lucky I brought along with me another handphone using a different network operator. This network worked fine in Guangzhou, full bar reception.
The hotel and most restaurants provide free Wifi, just ask them the password. Google search, google translate, FB and google map are easily accessible using VPN.
In China, a large number of websites are blocked by the “Great Firewall”. However, you can use VPN (Virtual Private Network) that will enable you to access Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Google.
If you wait till you arrive in China, installing the VPN app in your smartphone will be more difficult as Google Play is blocked too! Therefore, install your VPN before you travel to China.

COURIER SERVICE
Sending goods to Kuala Lumpur is easy. Either bring goods to the courier service premises or request them to collect from the hotel or collect from an address given to them.
There are many agents for courier service, can find them everywhere around Guangzhou.
The ones that I would go to;
- DPEX Courier Service located on Congyun Road 丛云路. Tel:+86 20 3630 0757
- Cuckoo Courier Service located on 11th Floor of GuangXin Business Centre, Lujing Road 麓景路. Tel:86 20 8350 0533
- UPS Courier Service located on 27th Floor of Times Property Center, Dongfeng Middle Road 东风中路. service hotline: 800-820-8388 / 400-820-8388 . Tel: (86-20) 83162888
TRANSPORTATION
China local transportation is very convenient, frequent busses and metro service. Some people get on taxi, but not me, because I read about not nice things some tourist wrote about China taxi service. Better stick with using buses, metro subway trains and intercity trains services.
Guangzhou traffic can be very hazardous at times, especially crossing the Jiefang South Road in front of Onelink Plaza. Cautiousness is advised when crossing streets and driving. For Malaysian travelers, be watchful when on the streets as you are used to drivers driving on the left. In China, people drive vehicles on the rightside of the road.
FOOD
A lot of halal restaurant around mosques and favourite spots. You can see a lot of Muslim Hui People 回族, Muslim Uighur People 维吾尔族, Arabs and African muslim people therefore no problem finding halal food.
Some food places advertise using Zabihah.
https://www.zabihah.com/mob/sub/ErCeGGrOi5?t=r&s=r
But rest assured that there are definitely a lot more Halal Restaurants around Guangzhou.
THE JOURNEY
Here is the story of our journey;
KUALA LUMPUR
7 Jul Thursday (Day 1)
We left our house in Ampang at 1.30 a.m. morning and arrived in KL Sentral; the initial plan was to take the Skybus. We came to know that the bus will only start operation at around 3 a.m.
Since we were afraid we will not make it to KLIA2 on time if we still wait for the 3 a.m. bus, therefore we took a taxi instead. Taxi fare RM 120 inclusive of after midnight taxi charges to Kuala Lumpur International Airport KLIA2.
- Arrived in KLIA2 at around 2.45 a.m.
- Flight checked in using electronic self check in (used the machine at the airport).
- Went through Malaysian Immigration biometric identification, security checking and waited at gate P3.
GUANGZHOU
- Boarded the plane AirAsia Flight AK112 and arrived in Guangzhou at about 10 a.m.
- After we stepped out of China immigration counter area at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport, we hurriedly made our move to the nearby Metro Station.
- We then bought Yangchengtong Card for taking local transportation such as Bus and Metro Subway Train. This is the top up payment card that we use to pay the transportation fare. Similar to Touch N Go card that we have in Malaysia. This will avoid us to stand in long queue just to buy Metro Subway tickets.
CLIVIA HOTEL
Clivia Hotel 广州君子兰酒店. Getting there: Get on Metro Line 3 at South Airport Metro Station then interchange to Metro Line 2 at Jiahewanggang and get off at Memorial Hall Metro Station. Walk to Clivia Hotel.
We stayed in Clivia Hotel located on Jiefang Bei Road (Memorial Hall Metro Exit C, walk west direction) Twinbed Room 188元 rate.

ONELINK SHOPPING CENTER
- Onelink International Wholesale Center 万菱广场. Getting there; Haizhu Square Metro Station Exit B2 and keep walking along Yide Road in west direction.
Onelink International Wholesale Center is located 5 minutes walk from shopping mall Haizhu Binbin Plaza.
It would be better to explore what they have in here.
Look around for toys, souvenirs, fashion accessories, home adornments, stationery and more.
We felt very comfortable seeing a lot of foreigners coming here, meaning the things they have able to attract people world wide to come here. We walked around the whole block of Onelink Plaza including the markets just behind this building.
We were tired, note that we have travelled some 2600 km by plane and arrived in Guangzhou just this morning.
After the visit to Onelink Plaza, we decided to take dinner and then rest. Took Subway Metro Train and got off at Memorial Hall Station.
SHAHKASER RESTAURANT
We walked back towards the hotel. Before returning to the hotel room, we stopped at a restaurant for dinner.
- Dinner at Shahkaser Restaurant located beside Clivia Hotel.
We stayed in hotel room at night.
It's time to cast face down on the ground prostrating to GOD, won't take much time to perform the Solat.
"And during the night prostrate to Him and exalt Him a long [part of the] night." Surah Al-Insan سورة الانسان (The Man) [76:26] - Al-Qur'an al-Kareem
We eventually can spend the whole night resting in the hotel room.
"It is Allah who made for you the night that you may rest therein and the day giving sight." Surah Ghafir سورة غافر (The Forgiver) [40:61] - Al-Qur'an al-Kareem
Submit to the Will of Allah is to succumb to that superior status of Allah’s Lordship and to obey.
8 Jul Friday (Day 2)
It's summer this time of year in Guangzhou, Fajr (pre-dawn) prayer time was at 4.30 a.m. and the sunrise was very early at 5.50 a.m. Sunset will be at about 7.15 p.m.
The days are longer in the summer than in winter.
Since Malaysia is located near to equator therefore the length of the daytime period is always twelve hours all year round. However if we travel further away from the Equator, we will find that certain areas of the world are effected by seasonal climate. The length of daytime varies with the season.
During summer the northern hemisphere is exposed to more sunlight and daytime comes very early.
The first morning in Guangzhou, what better way to eat breakfast in Guangzhou than to have a delicious meal at an 维吾尔族 Uyghur Restaurant on Guangta Road. So nutritious and stomach filling that we can even skip lunch.

HUAISHENG MOSQUE
Huaisheng Mosque 怀圣寺, built in 627, during the Tang Dynasty, which was one of the earliest mosques built after Islam spread in mainland China. Huaisheng Mosque, also called Guangta Mosque by the locals.
The mosque has an area of about 3,200 square meters. The architecture of the mosque building combines classic elements of China and Arab features. When entering the doors of the mosque, there is a building called Moon- observation Tower. Accurately for observing the cresent moon for determining the Hijra Calender.
The Islamic calendar is based on the sighting of the هلال hilāl (crescent moon) that appears shortly after sunset. Each Hijra month has either 29 or 30 days and traditionally, the first day of each month is the day that the hilal is first sighted.
Although the tower building was rebuilt in 1695, the renovation work is not large, but it looks so beauty when seen from afar. Two long foyers on both sides of Moon- observation Tower. In it, there are about 10 pieces of stone inscription of Huaisheng Mosque history.

In addition, there is a 36.3 meter-high Tower Illuminated stands in the south-western part of the mosque courtyard. The tower body is round while the upper edge is oval shape.
Huaisheng means 'remembering the sage' in Chinese. This name was given to commemorate Prophet Muhammad. Muhammad was the last Prophet and the Messenger of GOD. The Quran was revealed through Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Al-Ma'idah (The Table Spread) - سورة المائدة [5:75] - - Al-Qur'an al-Kareem
(5:75) "The Messiah, son of Mary, was no more than a Messenger, as those many Messengers that have passed before him"
Al-Ma'idah (The Table Spread) - سورة المائدة [5:46] until [5:48] - - Al-Qur'an al-Kareem (5:46) "And We sent Jesus, the son of Mary, after those Prophets, confirming the truth of whatever there still remained of the Torah. And We gave him the Gospel ( Injīl ), wherein is guidance and light, and which confirms the truth of whatever there still remained of the Torah, and a guidance and admonition for the God-fearing."
(5:47) "Let the followers of the Gospel judge by what Allah has revealed therein, and those who do not judge by what Allah has revealed are the transgressors."
(5:48) "Then We revealed the Book to you (O Muhammad!) with Truth, confirming whatever of the Book was revealed before, and protecting and guarding over it. Judge, then, in the affairs of men in accordance with the Law that Allah has revealed, and do not follow their desires in disregard of the Truth which has come to you. For each of you We have appointed a Law and a way of life."
Islam is the Way of all of the prophets from the first (Adam, peace be upon him) to Muhammad (Peace and blessings be upon him).

Oversea Trading Mall 越洋商贸城 surrounding area is what the locals call as 非洲村 “Fēizhōu cūn” or African Town.
We can see many African businessmen and businesswomen who temporarily live in the city, passing through to buy goods for export to Africa and Europe.
